Barrow is a football club based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. The club was formed in 1877 and played in the Northern League until it folded in 1898. They reformed in 1899 and played in the Central League until it merged with the Lancashire Combination to form the Lancashire Combination League in 1907. In 1909, Barrow were elected to Division Two of the Football League. They finished in seventh place in their first season in the League, but finished bottom of Division Two in 1911–12 and were relegated. They returned to Division Two in 1915 and finished as runners-up in 1917–18, earning promotion back to the Football League. In 1920–21, Barrow finished as runners-up in Division One and were promoted to the First Division. They finished in 13th place in their first season in the League, but improved their performances the following season and finished in seventh place. The club experienced troubled times in the mid-1920s, but finished in 11th place in 1925–26 and in 10th place in 1927–28. They finished bottom of the League in 1930–31 and were relegated. They returned to the First Division in 1934–35 and finished in 14th place. However, the club were relegated again in 1937–38, and they finished bottom of the Second Division in 1949–50. They were relegated again in 1953–54 and finished bottom of the Third Division in 1955–56. The club finished bottom of the Fourth Division in 1958–59, but were re-elected to the Football League. However, they finished bottom of the League in 1960–61 and were relegated once more. The club spent the next decade in the lower divisions of the Football League. They were promoted to the Football League Championship in 1983–84, but they were relegated back to the Football League Division One in 1988–89. The club were relegated to the Football League Division Two in 1990–91. The club were promoted back to the Football League Division One in 1996–97 and were promoted to the Football League Premier Division in 2001–02. The club finished in second place in the Premier Division in 2002–03 and were promoted to the Football League Championship. In 2005–06, the club reached the FA Cup first round for the first time, but they were beaten 3–1 by Second Division side Swansea City. In the 2006–07 season, the club reached the FA Cup second round, but they were beaten 1–0 by Bolton Wanderers.
