Cardiff City Football Club was founded in 1875 and became professional in 1901. The club played its first competitive match in 1902 against Nuneaton Town, although the club’s official history does not mention the match. The club was renamed Cardiff City in 1912 and won its first Welsh Cup in 1915. Cardiff City reached the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1962 and the FA Cup in 1969. In 1983, the club moved to its new home at the Cardiff City Stadium. The club played in the Premier League from 1992 to 2003, but relegated to the Football League Championship in 2004. After two seasons in the Championship, Cardiff City reached the Premier League again in 2007. The club won the League Cup in 2013 and the Welsh Premier Cup in 2014. Cardiff City was relegated to the Championship in 2016, but was reinstated to the Premier League in 2017.
