Genoa Football Club, also known as Genoa C.F.C., is a professional Italian football club founded in 1893. The team is based in the city of Genoa, Liguria and played in the top flight Serie A since 1936. Genoa was successful in the early stages of its history, winning the championship in 1922 and 1948, but the late 20th century was marked by financial difficulties. The club were relegated twice in the 1980s and 1990s, but returned to Serie A in 2001, and have been in the top flight since. They reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2007 and the Coppa Italia final in 2012, but both were lost to Barcelona. In the 2013–14 season, Genoa achieved their best-ever results in Serie A, finishing in fourth place, only one point behind champions Juventus. The team colours are blue and white.
