Hertha Berlin is a football club based in Berlin, Germany. Hertha was founded in 1899 and has played in the Bundesliga, the top division of German football, since 1973. The club’s home ground is the Olympiastadion. The team’s most successful period was from the 1960s to the 1980s, when it won seven Bundesliga titles and four DFB-Pokals (German Cup).
Since the establishment of the Bundesliga in 1963, Hertha has played in the top division for all but five seasons. The club has finished runners-up in the Bundesliga twice, in 1974 and 2006. Hertha has also reached the final of the DFB-Pokal twice, in 1983 and 2005. The team played in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 2009 and finished the group stage in third position. The club returned to the Champions League in 2015–16 and reached the semi-finals, where it was eliminated by Barcelona.
The club colours are royal blue and white. Hertha fans are known for their prominent vocal support of the team. The Ultras Hertha, who have a hostile relationship with upper management of the club, are known for their displays of violence and extremism.
