Mostar Zrinjski

The Mostar Zrinjski football club is a multi-sport club, that primarily competes in the Prva HNL, the top division of Croatian football. Founded in 1919, the club is based in the city of Mostar in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mostar Zrinjski play their home matches at the Stadion Grbavica, which has a seating capacity of 11,000. The club’s main rivals are hometown club NK Osijek and Croatian clubs HNK Rijeka, Hajduk Split, and Dinamo Zagreb.

The most successful period in Mostar Zrinjski’s history came in the 1960s and 1970s, when they finished in the top three of the Prva HNL on four occasions. Mostar Zrinjski reached the Croatian Cup final in 1967, only to lose 2–1 to Dinamo Zagreb. In 1970 they reached the Croatian Cup final again, this time beating Dinamo 4–1 on aggregate, but they lost 2–1 to NK Osijek. In 1976 they finished as runners-up in the Prva HNL, but again fell in the Croatian Cup final, this time losing 2–1 to Hajduk Split.

In recent years Mostar Zrinjski have struggled to compete in the Prva HNL. In 2013–14 they finished in eleventh place in the league table, relegation requiring them to play a play-off against Šibenik Santa Severa. They lost 3–1 in the play-off, and were relegated to the druga HNL. In the 2017–18 season, Mostar finished in eighteenth place, again requiring a play-off against Šibenik Santa Severa. They lost 3–1 in the play-off, and were once again relegated to the Prva HNL.

In the 2019–20 season, Mostar finished in eighteenth place once again, requiring a play-off against Osijek. They lost 5–1 in the play-off, and were once again relegated to the Prva HNL.

The club’s home colours are blue and white, and their away colours are red and white.

Mostar Zrinjski supporters are known as “Blau-Weiße”, or “Blue and White”. The club’s anthem is “Ti majko moja” (“You Mother Mine”) by Josip Jurčević.

Mostar Zrinjski were founded on 10 October 1919 as “Vitez” (alternatively “Vitez-Zrinjski”). The club changed its name to “Mostar” in 1940. In the 1945–46 season, the club merged with “Karađorđević” to become “Mostar-Karađ
