lands Cup
Switzerland Cup is a knockout competition contested by teams from national leagues in Switzerland. The competition started in 1973 and is contested by 32 teams. The current champions are FC Aarau who won their second title in the 2017–18 season.
The competition is open to all teams from the top two Swiss leagues, the Challenge League and the Swiss Super League. The two lowest ranked teams from each of the two leagues are relegated to a lower division, the Challenge League Promotion and Swiss Cup. The sixteen teams remaining enter the competition in knockout rounds.
The first knockout round is played between the teams ranked three and six in the Challenge League. The second round is played between the teams ranked one and two in the Super League. The quarter-finals are played between the teams ranked one and four in the Challenge League, and the semi-finals are played between the teams ranked one and two in the Super League. The final is played between the teams ranked one and two in the Challenge League.
Since 2007, the Swiss Cup has been played as a preseason tournament. The tournament features one team from each of the professional divisions in Switzerland. The teams are drawn in a random draw and play in round-robin format. The winners of each round play each other in the final.
Since 2008, the winners of the Swiss Cup have been awarded a berth in the UEFA Europa League.
