Trofense

The Trofense Football Club, or simply Trofense, is a Portuguese football club from the city of Trofense. The club was founded on 8 October 1912 and currently plays in the Portuguese Liga. The club’s home ground is the Estádio Municipal José Gonçalves da Silva, which has a capacity of 10,000.

Trofense played its inaugural season in the Liga provincial de Honra, but only managed to finish in eighth place. In 1963–64, they won their first trophy, the Taça de Honra, defeating FC Porto 5–1 on aggregate in the final. In 1974–75, they reached the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup, but were eliminated by Benfica. In the following season, Trofense finished in fourth place in the Liga and qualified for the European Cup for the first time. However, they were knocked out in the first round by Olympique Marseille.

Trofense finished in fifth place in the Liga in 1978–79, but reached the Portuguese Cup final for the second time that season, this time losing to Vitória de Guimarães. In the following season, they finished in third place in the Liga, qualifying for the UEFA Cup. In the first round, they were eliminated by Valencia CF.

In 1980–81, Trofense finished in second place in the Liga and qualified for the UEFA Cup for the third time. In the first round, they were eliminated by Ajax Amsterdam. In the following season, they finished in fourth place in the Liga and qualified for the UEFA Cup for the fourth time. In the first round, they were eliminated by Feyenoord Rotterdam.

In the 2007–08 season, Trofense finished in ninth place in the Liga and were relegated to the Liga second division. In the 2009–10 season, they were promoted to the Liga first division, but finished in last place and were relegated back to the Liga second division. In the 2013–14 season, they finished in fourth place in the Liga and were promoted to the Liga first division. In the following season, they finished in third place in the Liga and were promoted to the Portuguese Liga for the first time.

Trofense’s home ground is the Estádio Municipal José Gonçalves da Silva, which has a capacity of 10,000. The club’s colours are green and white. The club’s motto is “Unite para Alcançar o Sucesso”.

Trofense’s best season to date was the 2013–14 season, when they finished in third place in the Liga and were promoted to the Portuguese Liga for the first time. In the following season, they finished in third place in the Liga and were promoted to the Portuguese Liga for the first time.
