Arnhem

Vitesse Arnhem is a Dutch football club based in Arnhem. The club was formed on 15 December 1881 as a cricket and football club. They played their first football match on 18 October 1886 against SC Heerenveen. In 1895 they merged with SVV and played their first professional football season in 1896–97. In 1922 they merged with Excelsior and played their first season as Vitesse. In their first season as Vitesse, they finished as runners-up in the Dutch first division. Vitesse has won the Dutch league championship twice, in 1952 and 1971. They also won the Dutch Cup in 1956 and 1999. The club played in the UEFA Cup from 1984 to 1987, and have also played in the UEFA Champions League twice, in 1995 and 2005. The club’s home stadium is the Het Kasteel.
