Volta Redonda is a Brazilian football club based in the town of Volta Redonda, in the state of São Paulo. The club was founded on December 2, 1917, and plays in the Campeonato Paulista, the top tier of Brazilian football.
Volta Redonda is best known for its successful run in the Série A, the top tier of Brazilian football, from 1977 to 1995. The club has also won the Copa do Brasil three times, in 1974, 1989 and 1995. The club is also the most successful team in the history of the Copa Paulista, having won the competition eleven times.
The club also has a long and successful history in national competitions. Volta Redonda has reached the Eliminatoós stage of the Copa Libertadores seven times, and the Copa do Brasil four times. The club has also reached the final of the Copa Sudamericana twice, winning the competition in 1982 and 1986.
Volta Redonda’s home ground is the Estádio José Muricy Ramalho, which has a capacity of 47,000.
