Founded in 2007, Lokomotiv Sofia Football Club is a professional soccer team from Sofia, Bulgaria. The club currently plays in the Bulgarian top division, the Bulgarian First League. Lokomotiv Sofia F.C. is currently owned and operated by a group of investors, led by Tsvetan Lazarov and has been managed by Head Coach Tihomir Kostadinov since 2011.
The club is named after its home-city of Sofia, with the badge featuring a train and a eagle, two symbols of its namesake city. Lokomotiv Sofia has been successful, winning the Bulgarian Cup in 2016 and the Bulgarian SuperCup in 2017.
The team plays their home matches at the Lokomotiv Stadium, located in the Sofia’s Lozenets residential district. The club’s fanbase is known as the Red Boys, formed from the supporters of three other regional clubs from the capital, CSKA, Levski, and Slavia.
Lokomotiv Sofia’s biggest rival is Etar Veliko Tarnovo. In 2017, the two teams met in the final of the Bulgarian Cup, where Lokomotiv won with a 4-1 scoreline. This match was seen by many as one of the best Bulgarian matches in recent history.
The club has a promising future, having recently secured their place in the UEFA Europa Conference League for the 2021-22 season. With this kind of success, Lokomotiv Sofia is sure to become even more recognised in the future.
