Algeciras Club de Fútbol is a Spanish football club based in Algeciras, who currently play in Tercera División – Group 4. Founded in 1948, Algeciras reached Segunda División for the first time in 1967. After spending a number of seasons in the second tier, the club was relegated to the regional leagues in 1974 and 1979 where it remained until 1983 when they were promoted to the second division. In 1988, Algeciras finished third in Segunda División and were promoted to La Liga. In the 1994–95 season, the club won the Copa del Rey, their first major trophy. However, they were relegated in 1995–96 and did not return to La Liga until 2002. In their first season back in the top flight they finished in 8th place. The club played in La Liga for six consecutive seasons, only missing one season in 2007–08. In 2009–10, they finished in 16th place and were relegated to the Segunda División. In their first season back in the second division, they finished in 5th place. Algeciras reached the Copa del Rey final for the first time in 2016, but lost 4–1 to Barcelona.
