The football team Amstetten is a member of the Austrian Football Bundesliga, playing their home games in the Stadion Amstetten. Amstetten was founded in 1879 and played their first competitive game on 18 July 1879, against Mattersburg. The club has spent all but one season in the top tier of Austrian football, and they have won the Austrian Championship on three occasions. Their most recent title victory was in 2006. Amstetten also reached the final of the Mitropa Cup, but they were eventually beaten byliberec.
