The Beerschot VA football club is one of the main football clubs in Belgium, and the biggest in the Belgian First Division A. They were formed in 1908, and play their home matches at the 12,000-seat Stade Geert Weemans in Beerschot.
Beerschot VA have played in the Belgian First Division A for all but three seasons since 1946. They have finished as high as second in the league, and as low as tenth. They have also reached the Belgian Cup final eight times, winning it in 1969 and 1983.
The club’s most famous player is Johan Boskamp, who played for Beerschot between 1955 and 1977. He is widely considered to be one of the best midfielders of his era, and was voted Belgian player of the year twice. Boskamp also played for Belgium at the 1974 World Cup and the 1978 World Cup.
Beerschot VA’s biggest rivals are Standard Liège, and matches between the two sides are known as the Derby of Belgium.
