Town

Breattree Town are a football club based in Braintree, Essex, England. The club is currently members of the National League South and play at The Millennium Stadium.

Formed in 1885 as Braintree Rovers, the club joined Division Two of the Southern League in 1892. They were renamed Braintree Town in 1903 and were elected to the Football League in 1923. The club finished as runners-up in their first league season and were elected to the newly formed Third Division South.

Braintree Town made their debut in the FA Cup in 1925, losing 2–1 to Rotherham United. They reached the fourth round in their first season in the Football League, losing 1–0 at home to Bolton Wanderers. The club finished bottom of the Third Division South in 1934 but were re-elected.

After finishing bottom of the Third Division South again in 1938–39, the club were relegated to the Fourth Division. They were immediately re-elected and finished as champions of the Fourth Division in 1950–51. The club were promoted to the Third Division and finished as runners-up in their first season back in the Football League.

Braintree Town reached the fifth round of the FA Cup in 1953–54, losing 1–0 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club reached the third round of the FA Cup in 1955–56, losing 1–0 at home to Manchester United.

In 1958–59 the club finished bottom of the Third Division and were relegated to the Fourth Division. The club were relegated to the Fourth Division for the second time in 1965–66 and were relegated to the Conference for the first time in 1967–68.

In 1978–79 the club reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, losing 3–2 at home to Tottenham Hotspur. The club reached the final of the FA Trophy in 1980–81, losing 2–1 at home to Crewe Alexandra.

After finishing as champions of the Conference in 1989–90, the club were promoted back to the Third Division. The club finished bottom of the Third Division in 1991–92 and were relegated to the Fourth Division. The club were relegated to the Conference again in 1998–99 and were relegated to the National League South for the first time in 2001.

The club were relegated to the National League South for the second time in 2002–03 and were relegated to the National League for the third time in 2007. The club reached the third round of the FA Cup in 2009–10, losing 3–2 at home to Manchester United.

The club were promoted to the National League South for the fourth time in 2017–18 and reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history in 2018–19, losing 2–1 at home to AFC Wimbledon.
