Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club is a professional association football club based in the city of Brighton, East Sussex, England. The club was formed in 1890 as Brighton St. John’s, and adopted its present name in 1898. They played their first competitive match in 1899 and entered the FA Cup for the first time in 1901. The club played its first ever season in the League Cup in 1920. In 1960, they reached the FA Cup Final for the first time, but lost to Manchester United. They reached the UEFA Cup Final in 1984, but lost to Juventus. In the 1990s, they reached the FA Cup Final twice, but lost to Manchester United in 2000 and Tottenham Hotspur in 2002. Brighton also reached the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup Final in 1997, but lost to Barcelona. The club was relegated from the Premier League in 2003, but returned in 2006. In 2013, they reached the FA Cup Final for the third time, but lost to Manchester City. The following year, they reached the League Cup final, but lost to Arsenal.
