Bristol City Football Club, commonly known as Bristol City, is an English professional football club playing in the Championship, the third tier of the English football league system. Originating from the Ashton Gate area of Bristol, the club played its early years in the Southern League before becoming founder members of the Football League in 1894. Bristol City have been champions of the Football League twice, in 1919 and 1920, and have also been runners-up twice, in 1907 and 1909. The club has also reached the FA Cup Final twice, in 1911 and 1973, but has never won the trophy. The club’s highest ever league placing is 8th in the Premier League, which they achieved in 1987. Bristol City have also competed in European football, as well as several other domestic cups. The club’s traditional kit colours are blue and white, and their home ground is Ashton Gate.
