EL Nacional

Nacional is a Colombian football club, based in the city of Medellín. Nacional plays in the Liga A, the top tier of Colombian football. The club was founded on May 10, 1914, and played its first major competition in the 1943 season. Nacional has accumulated a total of 58 titles, including 37 Copa Petrobas, 14 Colombian Cups and 4 Avianca Cups. They reached the final of the Copa Libertadores in 2002, but were eliminated by Atlético Nacional of Paraguay. Nacional reached the final of the 2006 Copa Sudamericana, but were again eliminated, this time by Botafogo of Brazil. Nacional has twice been runner-up in the Copa América: in 1967 and 1995.
