Freiburg

Freiburg, also known as Freiburg im Breisgau, Freiburg im Südwesten, or simply Freiburg, is a football club from Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The club was formed on 12 September 1879 as Freiburg Football and Cricket Club, and played its first official game on 1 October 1879. The team joined the Southern German Football League in 1894 and, in turn, the German Football Association in 1900. Freiburg played in the Bundesliga for the first time in 1963, and won the championship in 1972 and 1973. The club reached the final of the Champions League in 1977 and 2002, but lost both times to Bayern Munich. Freiburg also reached the DFB-Pokal final in 1974 and 2006, but lost both times to Munich. The club plays its home games at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion.
