Guairena FC is one of the oldest football clubs in Paraguay. Founded in 1961, it has a long and storied history and has grown to become one of the most successful teams in the Paraguayan league.
The team is based in the city of Coronel Oviedo and play their home matches at the Estadio República Argentina. Guairena FC have been successful at the national level, having won the Paraguayan first division three times, in 1966, 1968 and 1990. They have also enjoyed success in the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, having reached the semi-finals of the former and the quarter-finals of the latter.
Guairena FC’s recent success has been based on a strong squad of Paraguayan internationals, led by club captain, Julio César Cáceres, and coaching staff, including head coach Ever Hugo Almeida. The team has also featured guest players from across the globe, including Dutchman, Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The club is widely respected for its dedication to developing young talent, and its youth academy is amongst the best in the country. The success of the club’s youth players has led to several players receiving call-ups to the Paraguayan national team.
