The Mannheim Heidelberg FC team is one of Germany’s oldest football clubs, and is one of the country’s most successful clubs. The club was founded in 1876 and played its first competitive match in 1877. Mannheim has won the German championship on five occasions (1906, 1907, 1910, 1913, 1970), as well as the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in 1979 and 2002. The club also finished as runners-up in the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1984 and reached the final of the Intertoto Cup in 1996. In domestic league competition, Mannheim has won the Oberliga (east) nine times, the Regionalliga (central) twice, and the 2. Bundesliga (second tier) twice. The club’s reserve team, the TSV 1860 Mannheim, has also enjoyed success, winning the Regionalliga (central) championship in 2003 and 2006. Mannheim’s home ground is the Heidelberg Stadium, which has a capacity of 51,500.
