Melbourne City Football Club is an Australian professional football club based in Melbourne, Victoria, that competes in the A-League.
The club was formed in December 2013 as an amalgamation of two Victorian clubs, Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart. The first game for the new club was played on 27 December 2013 against Sydney FC at AAMI Park, losing 2–1.
City finished the regular season in 3rd place, qualifying for the playoffs. In the playoffs they defeated Perth Glory 3–2 on aggregate to reach the grand final, where they lost 2–1 to Sydney FC.
City had its own stadium called Melbourne City Stadium opened in February 2016.
The club also has a youth academy which has produced players such as Aaron Mooy, Daniel Arzani, Trent Sainsbury and Lawrence Thomas.
