Portsmouth Football Club is one of the oldest clubs in England, having been founded in 1875. The club played its first ever competitive match in October 1875, a 4-0 home win over Southsea. Portsmouth reached the FA Cup final in 1898, losing 1-0 to Everton. The club enjoyed its most successful period in the 1970s, when it reached the semi-finals of the European Cup twice and the FA Cup once. Portsmouth’s most recent achievement was winning the League Two title in 2013-14.
