Queens Park Rangers U21s are a Development Squad at Queens Park Rangers Football Club. The squad exists to provide young talent with the opportunity to develop their skills in the Premier League environment and alongside some of the first team regulars. Whilst it is not a first team, the squad plays in the Development League – the fifth tier of English football.
In the 2018-19 season, the U21s finished 6th in the Development League. They reached the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup where they were beaten by Chelsea.
The squad is made up of players who are primarily academy graduates but also includes some youth players from outside of Queens Park Rangers. Players from the U21s sometimes feature for the first team in cup competitions, such as the League Cup.
Players in the U21s are expected to be amongst the fittest and quickest in the club and to learn on the job. Tactics and skills are constantly developed and the squad seems to be constantly changing. This allows young footballers the opportunity to progress at the club and hopefully one day play for the first team.
