Sao Paulo FC (SPFC) is a professional football club based in São Paulo, Brazil. The club was founded on May 15, 1917, and currently plays in the Brazilian Série A, the top tier of the country’s football league. Sao Paulo is the most successful club in Brazil, having won 33 championships – more than any other club in Brazil. The club has also won the Intercontinental Cup twice – in 1994 and 1996. The club was also the runner-up in the Copa Libertadores in 1971 and in the Intertoto Cup in 1985. Sao Paulo is also the only Brazilian club to have won the European Cup, which they accomplished in 1962.
