Football Club

Smorgon Football Club is a small club based in the town of Smorgon, Belarus. The club plays in the country’s top division, the Belarusian Premier League.

The club was founded in 1965 and was one of the first clubs in the Soviet Union to have international players on its roster. The club had achieved some success during the Soviet era, reaching the Soviet Top League multiple times and winning the Belarusian Cup in 1992-93. Since the independence of Belarus in 1991, the Smorgon Football Club has become one of the country’s most successful sides.

The club prides itself on having a team made up of local players, with most coming from Smorgon itself or the surrounding area. The club enjoys a strong relationship with the local community with many of the town’s residents turning out in full force for home games.

The team plays its home games at the newly titled Arsenal Stadium which was built in 2006 at a cost of 6.5 million dollars. This stadium has a capacity of 21,000 fans and is the largest stadium in the country. On match days, its fan base is estimated to be between 7,500 and 9,000.

In 2021, the club won its first Belarusian Premier League championship. This title marked the club’s best result since its establishment in 1965. As a result, the club qualified for the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history as well.

Smorgon Football Club is known for its excellent youth development program. The team’s star player is Antonio Carvalho, a youth product of the club, who has been playing for the club since 2013. The club is also dedicated to developing local talent by offering numerous youth academies. With the club’s commitment to local development, it has enjoyed a steady rise in the top division of Belarusian Football.
