Tenerife

The Tenerife football club, officially called Club Deportivo Tenerife, or simply Tenerife, is a Spanish football club located in the Canary Islands. Tenerife plays in the Spanish Football League (Liga Hispana de Fútbol), the top tier of Spanish football. The team was formed in 1927 and played its first official game in 1928 against neighbouring club Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The club has spent most of its history in the second division, but has spent five seasons in the top flight and been relegated twice. Tenerife reached the finals of the Copa del Rey in 1982, which they lost to Barcelona. They also reached the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977. The club play their home games at the Estadio Gran Canaria, also known as the Estadio La Luz.
