Turkey, also known as the Turkish national football team, is a professional football team based in Istanbul, Turkey, that competes in the Turkish Super Lig. They are the most successful football team in the nation’s history, having won a total of 16 official international tournaments, more than any other team. Turkey’s first international football match was played on 14 May 1902 against Greece. In the early years of their history, they struggled to compete against more established European teams, but they have since become one of the most successful teams in the world. The team has played in three European Championships, making their debut in 1984. They were also runners-up in the 2002 World Cup and the 2016 European Championship.
