Venlo, short for hometown club Venlo HC, is a professional football club from Venlo, North Brabant, in the Netherlands. The club was founded on 15 October 1917 and plays in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football. Venlo has won the Eredivisie twice, most recently in the 1999–2000 season. The club also reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 1985 and the UEFA Cup final in 1987. The club was founded by August Herreweghe, a rich shipowner. Herreweghe was one of the founders of the Royal Dutch Football Association in 1905 and also contributed financially to the organisation of the Dutch national team. Venlo plays its home games at the De Kuip, which has a seating capacity of 31,500. The club’s colours are red and white.
