Leonesa

Leonesa Club de Fútbol, more commonly known as Leonesa, is a Spanish football club based in León, Castile and León. Founded on 14 December 1904, it played its first game on 12 January 1905 in the regional leagues. Leonesa is currently playing in the Segunda División B, holding home games at the 15,000-seat Polideportivo de León Jorge Sáenz de Pablo.

Leonesa’s most prominent players include Spanish international Raúl García, who played for the club in its early years, and Iván Zamora, one of the top scorers in La Liga with 156 goals. Zamora also holds the record for most goals in a season for Leonesa, with 36 in 1965–66. The club played its first European game in the 1955–56 season, taking part in the first edition of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Leonesa was relegated from La Liga in the 2006–07 season, but achieved immediate promotion back to the top flight after winning the promotion play-offs. In the 2013–14 season, Leonesa finished in seventh place in La Liga, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League. However, after losing in the first qualifying round to Swedish side GAIS, the club was relegated back to La Liga. The following season, Leonesa finished in 15th place in La Liga, and was relegated to the Segunda División.
