Burnley Football Club is an English Professional football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. The club was formed in 1875 and first competed in the Football League in 1892. The team played its first ever competitive match in the FA Cup against Sheffield United on 17 November 1892. Burnley have competed in the Football League since then, except for five seasons between 1920 and 1937, and have been Premier League champions twice, in 1920–21 and 1959–60. The team played its first ever European match in 1973–74 against Feyenoord Rotterdam in the UEFA Cup. Burnley reached the final of the FA Cup for the first time in 1986–87, losing to Liverpool. The club’s most recent trophy success was the Premier League championship in 2013–14. Burnley’s home ground since its formation has been Turf Moor.
