When people think of football clubs in Essex, Colchester United is usually one of the first that comes to mind. With a rich history and a passionate fanbase, Colchester United is one of the most loved sides in the league. The club was formed in 1885 and played their first ever game in 1886. They were initially a members of the Football League but left in 1903 to join the Southern League. After a number of successes in the Southern League, Colchester United were elected to the Football League in 1920 and have remained in the top flight ever since. The club has enjoyed some notable successes in their history, most notably winning the FA Cup in 1936 and the League Cup in 1967. The club’s home ground is the Colchester Community Stadium.
