Darlington Football Club was formed in 1879 and play their home games at The Darlington Arena. The club have competed in the Football League since its establishment in 1888, and have played in the second tier of English football for most of their history. They reached the Football League Cup semi-finals in 2003 and the final in 2007. They also reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 1970 and 1998. The club’s most successful period came in the 1970s and 1980s, when they played in the top division of English football and reached the FA Cup final in 1970 and the League Cup final in 1984.
