Herediano is a Colombian football club, based in the city of Heredia. The club was founded on May 18, 1922, and played its first official match on November 10, 1922, against Atenas. The club played in the second division of the Colombian football league in the 1970s and 1980s. After spending many years in the second division, Herediano gained promotion to the first division in 1997. The club has had mixed success in the first division, with a total of seven seasons in the top flight. In the Copa Libertadores, Herediano has reached the semi-finals twice, in 2003 and 2006. In the 2007 Copa Sudamericana, the club reached the semi-finals, but was eliminated by Boca Juniors. Herediano has played in the final of the Copa Colombia four times, but has never won the cup.
