Torino Football Club is an Italian professional football club based in Turin, Piedmont. The club was formed in 1899 and played its first professional season in 1910. Torino have competed in Italy’s top flight, Serie A, since its establishment in 1929. They have also won the Coppa Italia twice, in 1936 and 1982. Torino Football Club was founded on 14 November 1899, the same year the city of Turin was annexed by the Italian Kingdom. The first president was Vincenzo Florio. The first game was played on 16 November 1899 against Alessandria and the team lost 3–0. The first victory came on 5 May 1900 against Savona. Torino’s colours have been white and red ever since. In 1912, Torino participated in the first Italian Championship and reached the semi-finals. In 1929, Torino was admitted to the Italian Serie A. Torino played its first home game in the Serie A on 28 October 1929 against Cagliari. In 1936, Torino reached the Coppa Italia final, which they lost to Juventus. In 1982, Torino won their second Coppa Italia. The final was played against Roma and Torino won 2–1. On 9 April 1990, Torino reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup. Alex Young scored the opening goal in the first leg against Marseille. Marseille equalized in the second leg, but Torino went on to win the tie 3–2 on aggregate. In the same season, Torino also reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Torino reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals for the third time in 2005. However, they were beaten by Spanish side Valencia. That year, Torino also reached the semi-finals of the Serie A. Torino finished the season in fourth place, qualifying for the 2006–07 Champions League. However, they were eliminated in the group stages. Torino played their last game in Serie A on 17 May 2007. Torino’s shirts have been white and red ever since.
