Rovers

Tranmere Rovers Football Club is a professional association football club based in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. The club was formed in 1876 and played its first competitive match in 1877. Rovers have played at their current home of Prenton Park since 1901. The club’s highest league position to date has been second in the First Division in 1920–21. In 1955, they reached the final of the FA Cup but lost 1–0 to Manchester United. Rovers were admitted to the Football League in 1972. In 1989, they reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup but lost to Everton. The club won the League Cup in 1994. In 1995, Rovers reached the final of the UEFA Cup but lost 2–1 to Barcelona. Rovers were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. In 2004, the club was relegated to the Football League Championship but was promoted back to the Premier League in 2006. Rovers reached the Football League Cup Final in 2013 but lost 2–1 to Liverpool.
